Man Utd transfer news: Red Devils to wait for target
Kevin Strootman’s agent Cheil Dekker has revealed that his player’s services will not be available until the summer, much to the disappointment of Manchester United, who were rumoured to be interested in signing the Dutch midfielder in January.
Strootman’s stock has risen in recent weeks after being appointed captain for Holland’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Romania .The 22-year-old’s strong presence in central midfield for PSV is said to have attracted Sir Alex Ferguson, who wants to bring the Dutchman to the Premier League.
Fellow Dutch international Dirk Kuyt has supported the decision to make Strootman captain, praising the young midfielder: “Strootman is the leader of the new generation, someone who can still further develop as captain. He regularly speaks up on the pitch, both at PSV and with Netherlands.
“He will now get the chance to become more dominant off the pitch as well with Oranje. This benefits his development and it is a reward for his good performances.”
Cheil Dekker told reporters in September that the midfielder would be seeking a future away from PSV.
‘Strootman has had a good time in Eindhoven, but he decided that he wants to prove himself in a better league,” said the player’s agent.
“If an agreement is able to be reached with a potentially interested club, PSV will allow Kevin to leave in January.”
However, it now appears Manchester United will have to wait until the summer to sign the young midfielder, who is valued at £20million by PSV.
When asked if Strootman would still be available in January, Dekker replied: “Absolutely not. There is absolutely no truth in that.
“We are only in October. The only thing I can tell you is to call me back in April or May.
“We all know that in football everything is possible. But at the moment it is useless to talk about the market,” he added.
